Resort stays around Lake Michigan & the St. Louis riverfront

Top 10 Casino Hotels

Valeozen maps dune country, Wisconsin river towns and the Mississippi bank, gathered into ten resort hotels with real rooms, spas, pools and meeting halls. Each entry sketches the stay, names the traveller it suits and lists the questions to settle before reserving.

The reader we had in mind

Picture someone mapping out one night or two who wants a good bed plus a reason to linger: spa hours, laps beneath a glass roof, a concert, a conference day, a stroll to the Arch. That reader is our audience. Every property was weighed purely as lodging, and its casino earns exactly one neutral line among the facilities, since nothing more is relevant to a guest here.

About the publisher

Horseshoe Hammond, LLC, the publisher of this site, runs a casino venue in Hammond, Indiana that has no hotel rooms, so it cannot be part of a casino-hotel list and is not in it. None of the ten hotels is owned by the publisher. Two of them, Harrah's Joliet and Horseshoe St. Louis, are run by subsidiaries of Caesars Entertainment, the group the publisher also belongs to, and each of those two carries the label “Sister property (same parent group)”. All ten positions are editorial picks. Valeozen runs on affiliate commission, which arrives whenever a partner programme credits us with a stay reserved via one of our buttons. Because the publisher operates in this region, it has a commercial interest in people travelling here, and you should read the list with that in mind.

Methodology

The long list covered resorts across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and greater St. Louis; anything without guest rooms reservable now was cut. Survivors were cross-checked in recent reporting for trading status and lodging, and we fetched every official website ourselves to prove the button lands somewhere real. One Wisconsin site stalled our automated request, which looks like bot screening; it stays listed and the note says so.

Placement tracks the five yardsticks above. Spa resorts on or near the lake rise toward the top since they fit the broadest mix of travellers, and the city and airport hotels follow. Not one property bought its position, and commission neither lifted nor sank anybody.

Where the publisher stands. That tag signals a hotel run by a company from the publisher's own corporate family; the buildings themselves are owned by real-estate investment trusts and leased to that group. Both sister properties went through the same five yardsticks as everyone else, and their label follows them around the site. Because the publisher operates in this region, it has a commercial interest in people travelling here, and you should read the list with that in mind.

Who pays for Valeozen? This site contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you follow a link and make a booking/purchase or download, at no extra cost to you. Valeozen runs on affiliate commission, which arrives whenever a partner programme credits us with a stay reserved via one of our buttons. Your hotel bill is identical with or without our link.

Lines we do not cross. Prices never appear, and room totals or dates only when the property or reliable reporting settles them; nor do points, symbols or grades. Anything unconfirmed is phrased as a question for the front desk. Send corrections to contact@valeozen.com; the editorial page explains the process.

Asked often, answered plainly

Which months suit these hotels best?

Lakeshore towns from the Indiana dunes to Door County hum loudest between late June and August, and shoreline outdoor pools tend to open only then. Leaf-peeping weekends in October sell out early as well. Once the cold arrives, indoor assets carry the stay: the glass-roofed pool at Gun Lake, heated indoor pools at Wind Creek, Ho-Chunk, Carter and Oneida, and the spas in Michigan City and New Buffalo. Milwaukee and the St. Louis riverfront hold up in every month.

What about transfers if I arrive without a car?

Rail reaches a few of them: South Shore Line trains run to Michigan City, Metra and Amtrak call at Joliet, and MetroLink stops beside the St. Louis riverfront hotel. In Green Bay, Oneida Casino Hotel sends a complimentary van over from the airport opposite. Elsewhere, plan on driving or a pre-arranged car, and get shuttle details in writing before counting on one.

What age do front desks require for registration?

Resort hotels joined to a casino frequently set 21 as the floor for whoever signs the registration card, though an ordinary motel down the road might take 18-year-olds. Policies vary from property to property and state to state; put the question to the front desk before any deposit leaves your account.

Does the quoted nightly figure tell the whole story?

Quite possibly. A nightly resort or amenity charge, valet or garage costs, and a refundable hold on your card at arrival all turn up in this region. Prices move too often for us to print them, so request the all-in figure per night, taxes included, before you commit.

Are children welcome?

In most of these hotels a child may share a room with an adult, while pools, spas and dining rooms each keep separate age limits. The law bars minors from casino areas outright. Cribs, connecting rooms and lifeguard cover are worth raising with reservations.

Can Valeozen reserve a room for me?

No. We write about hotels; we are not an agency. Each “Check availability” button opens that property's official website, and the reservation, payment and cancellation rules you agree there bind only you and the hotel.

Why is the publisher's Hammond venue missing?

Horseshoe Hammond, LLC, the publisher of this site, runs a casino venue in Hammond, Indiana that has no hotel rooms, so it cannot be part of a casino-hotel list and is not in it. None of the ten hotels is owned by the publisher. Two of them, Harrah's Joliet and Horseshoe St. Louis, are run by subsidiaries of Caesars Entertainment, the group the publisher also belongs to, and each of those two carries the label “Sister property (same parent group)”.
